Staying-Healthy Tips.

Along with using COLD-FX® to maintain an optimal immune system, here are eight additional tips for your daily defence against cold and flu infections this season.

1. Get A Flu Shot
Flu shots are especially beneficial for those with weakened immune systems, respiratory illnesses, the elderly or those who come in contact with a lot of people.

2. Wash Your Hands
Most cold and flu viruses are spread through direct contact. Make sure to wash your hands frequently throughout the day with warm water and soap, scrubbing for about 10 seconds.

3. Clean Your Shared Spaces
Make it a habit to disinfect phones, keyboards, doorknobs, office equipment and other shared items that are used by several people during the day and may harbor cold & flu viruses.

4. Avoid Touching Your Face
The eyes, nose, or mouth are passages used by viruses to gain entry into the body.

5. Drink More Water
In the Fall and Winter, it's easy to overlook your thirst and become dehydrated. Make sure you consume at least 8 glasses of water each day.

6. Get Fresh Air
Fresh air is important, especially in cold weather when central heating creates a dry environment and makes your body vulnerable to cold & flu viruses. Also, during the winter months people tend to stay indoors, which means more germs are circulating in crowded areas.

7. Don't Smoke
Statistics show that heavy smokers suffer from more severe colds, more frequently. Even being around smoke profoundly affects the immune system. Smoke dries out your nasal passages and paralyzes cilia - an important component of the immune defence which removes cold & flu viruses from your nasal passages. Experts contend that one cigarette can paralyze cilia for as long as 30 to 40 minutes.

8. Listen To Your Body
If you feel less than 100%, proper rest will allow you to feel better.

Traveling - Traveling can present significant challenges to your health. Jet lag, poor diet, and sleep deprivation all negatively impact the immune system. Re-circulating air dries mucous membranes, reducing the efficacy of our first line of defence.

Starting A Diet - A change in nutrition and intake places stress on your body and can interfere with your immune function. Both healthy and poor eating habits affect digestion, which in turn disrupts immunity.

Athletic Training - Exercise yields numerous health benefits. Heavy exertion for prolonged periods, however, can actually weaken the immune system. “Oxidative stress” due to increased metabolism and minor muscle injuries, as well as competition between muscles and immune cells for key amino acids, can impair the immune system.

Quitting Smoking - While quitting smoking strengthens your immune health in the long term, the initial phase can exert stress on all the body’s functions, including the immune system. An inflammatory response coupled with a reduction in protective secretory IgA antibodies has also been observed.
