Our hair, skin and nails are often an external indicator of what’s going on with our health internally. Those same nutrients and foods that strengthen our immune system and contribute to our overall health can also impact your hair! Here a few of the major nutrients that benefit your immune system and, in turn, support hair health too!

Protein

They say you are what you eat – and your hair follicles are made mostly of protein. So, one of the best things to do for hair growth is eat a healthy amount of protein!

Where can I find it? Eggs are a terrific source of protein and are one of your most efficient options for healthy hair, since they’re packed with protein and many other vitamins!

Vitamin C

Vitamin C supports hair health in two ways: one, the body uses vitamin C to produce collagen, which is one of the integral proteins that make up the hair follicle and, two, it’s full of antioxidants that help protect from free radicals. Double win!

Where can I find it? Fruits and veggies are a great place to find vitamin C. Avocados are an awesome choice because they’re also packed with vitamin E, another antioxidant that may promote hair health by reducing oxidative stress – we’re doubling down on hair benefits again!

While there are boundless hair gels, creams, sprays and tools on the market, the foundation to strong hair starts from within. This is especially true during the colder months when hair tends to get dry and brittle from the harsh elements. Remember to stay hydrated and get those crucial nutrients into your diet.
Here’s to a fabulous new year!
