With Valentine’s day around the corner, it’s common to start thinking about how to show your love for others, but we rarely stop to think about how to express love for ourselves. Read along to learn five ways you can practice self-care and indulge in some “me time” this month.

Start the day with a meditation

Life can become so hectic that we barely have time to slow down and check in with our minds and bodies. Take a moment before your day begins to breathe and centre yourself. You can focus on whatever you think you need that day, whether it be relaxation or self-acceptance. Or you can just take a quiet moment for yourself, paying close attention to taking deep, slow breaths.

Treat yourself

Have a favourite snack? Been eyeing that cozy scarf? Looking for a new succulent to add to your collection? Treat yourself! You spend the rest of the year being responsible and caring for others, so now is the time to get yourself a present and indulge in something that brings you joy.

Time out from tech

Our minds are constantly overstimulated by the smartphones, computers and TVs surrounding us. We know it isn’t realistic to take yourself completely off-the-grid but try taking an hour or two at the end of each day to unplug. Remove all the screen distractions around you and truly check in with yourself.

Get pampered

Like the saying goes, your body is a temple, so take some time to treat it like one. There are so many simple steps you can take like dry skin brushing, moisturizing or taking a soothing bath that will make you feel amazing. Even prioritizing a good night’s sleep will do wonders and show your body some love. If you’re having a hard time pampering yourself, let us help! Do something you love

Give yourself permission this season do something you love, no matter how big or small. The best way to start is to make a list of every activity that brings you comfort, and slowly make your way through it. This could be anything from going on a hike to watching your favourite TV show. Let this be a judgement-free zone away from the thought of what you “should” be doing, and just do what makes you happy.
